Gallantry
Andrés Isaac Santana
Attracted by the existence of a superior dimension that transcends and surpasses us, Dayron Gallardo returns to painting again and again with the interest of fixing on the canvas those imprecise and random drifts of the spirit. I discover in his pictorial narrative a foundational impulse, a will to catch everything that reveals itself «deep» and «ungraspable». We are talking about a painting that is not extremely interested in questions related to representation; on the contrary, it is passionate about the making of the gnoseological. It is not by chance that, in his large formats, this symptomatic recurrence to the cosmic, the amorphous, the ethereal, the ambiguous and the abstract-concrete is reiterated. Gallardo’s surfaces encode a symbolic universe -with sufficient autonomy- in which the ritual of curiosity and exaltation is celebrated. It is as if all of it were doomed to the decisive consummation of the miraculous hell and the vicious and perverse paradise. I recognize in his work a kind of throbbing dissatisfaction with the horizon of the given, the established, the required. In fact, in my eagerness to understand her, to interpret her or to possess her through words, I discover my clumsiness and my lack, since she appears to me as a strange accident and an elusive matter. However, this very flight activates in me the mechanisms of seduction, even though I am well aware of the danger of excessive curiosity. But it is precisely that curiosity, that doubt, that will to know, what constitutes the blood and flesh of the pictorial grammar of this singular artist. Gallardo rehearses his gallantry; never before has a surname narrowed such complicity. And that courage and decision to act, translates, in his case, into an act of love for painting as a reflective object and a space for emancipation.
